Watch the Discovery Health Channel's 2005 profile of my 17-year search for a
diagnosis, on their series "Mystery Diagnosis." If you've missed the
re-runs on DHC or TLC and want to see the show,
contact me .  It's offered at no charge
through a private online hosting company, which is a compromise suggested by the
    show's producers.
The episode is also available on iTunes for $1.99:  Search under
"Mystery Diagnosis, Season One, Episode 8, Blood Brothers"

Welcome...

to the Behçet's Disease Books and Resources website. It has been created by
Joanne Zeis, Behçet's patient and author of Essential Guide to Behçet's Disease,
You Are Not Alone: 15 People with Behçet's, Basic Information on Behçet's Disease,
and Behçet's Disease: Medical Research Studies. This site was last updated on 10/5/08. If you're new to Behçet's disease (BD), please take a look at Behçet's Basics. This section provides a general overview of the symptoms of Behçet's, as well as information on diagnostic criteria, and a description of the challenges of living with BD on a daily basis.

The resources offered here are designed to meet the needs of anyone with Behçet's connections -- from patients, their family members and friends, to health care professionals.

As a 29-year veteran of Behçet's disease, I understand the frustrations and pain of living with this illness. Trying to find appropriate treatment is hard enough. Finding well-written, comprehensive information about Behçet's disease shouldn't be one of your frustrations.

Be well,
Joanne Zeis

As a long-time member and supporter of the American Behçet's Disease Association, Joanne Zeis works closely with the organization in distributing books and resources for patients, their loved ones, and healthcare providers. She is also a member of the International Society for Behçet's Disease, the Vasculitis Foundation and the American Medical Writers Association. She holds a B.S. in Psychology from Tufts University, with additional classes through the Continuing Education Department of Harvard Medical School, and the Center for Spirituality, Theology and Health at Duke University Medical Center. Joanne's search for a Behcet's diagnosis was the subject of an episode of the Discovery Health Channel's "Mystery Diagnosis" TV series in 2005. In 2006, Joanne was the sole recipient of the American Medical Association's Citation for Distinguished Service award, for her ongoing work in Behcet's disease. The Citation is the only national award given each year by the AMA to a non-medically-trained individual.
Joanne works full-time as a medical writer for a company in Massachusetts, where she provides plain-English interpretations of complex medical information for health care consumers. She lives in Massachusetts with her husband and two children and has been dealing with Behcet's disease since 1979.
